Having stopped sulking I thought it was time to write a report.
All good things must come to an end ,as did our unbeaten winning streak over the old enemy.
2 things contributed to this, notably a much improved well coached bunch from Clatterbridge, but more worringly a talented squad from Eastham showing a very soft underbelly.
The scoreline shows a victory to Anselmians but unfortunately the A squad game finished 14-7 in favour of Wirral.
As normal Saints started brightly and were quickly into their stride with a well worked try from Cameron. Unfortunately someone switched out the lights from here and turned off the power, allowing Wirral a foot hold in the game from which to launch Vando's big bro into attack .
Granted we conceeded more than our share of pens but some unforced handling areas contributed to a lack of cohesion or penetration . Wirral grew in confidence and threw the kitchen sink including all its contents at us which in past times wasn't enough but with Hulk Hogan now signed on they were able to penetrate .
With the development game played over the last 20 minutes Saints were able to run in a further 3 tries bringing the scoreline to 28-14.
Positives to take from this were the tears at the end showing it has meaning,a lesson learned in defeat not to think someone else will make a tackle or hit a ruck. Get on top in a game and stay there by squeezing the life out of the opposition.
Thanks to Steve and the Wirral boys and to Branchy for his officiating skills.................
