1st XV
The first team had a day off on Saturday after Orrell called off the game on Thursday evening, it is a sad reflection on the modern game when a club with Orrell’s history cannot fulfil a fixture.
At the start of the season, they were running three teams, they are now struggling to field one team, injuries & half term commitments forced them to concede the game.
According to the league table on the RFU website we are still 14 points clear of second placed Rochdale who have two games in hand.
The first team have another day off next Saturday, their next game is a trip to Cumbria on the 12th March to play St Benedict’s.
Results from North 2 West:
Bolton……………….63 - 0…………….St Benedict’s
Keswick…………….19 - 14……………Warrington
Orrell………………….AWO…………….Anselmians
Rochdale…………..31 - 7……………..Cockermouth
Southport………….17 - 22…………..De La Salle
2nd XV
The second team were also without a game on Saturday but there were a couple of matches played in Div 2 South. Neither of those two games affected the top few places in the division, the seconds are still in third place with a good chance of promotion if they continue their fine recent form.
Their next game is next Saturday when they entertain Crewe & Nantwich 2 at Eastham.
Results from Div 2 South:
Altrincham Kersal 2……………..5 - 26………………Broughton Park 2
L’pool University Veterinary College……………..45 - 0……………….Bowdon 2
3rd XV
With Saturday being designated a “Spare” date there was only one game played in Div 5 West, Hoylake’s loosing bonus point allows them to leapfrog the “Mavs” up into second place.
Mossley Hill 2 conceded for the fourth time on Saturday so sadly they will probably now drop out of the league.
Results from Div 5 West:
Merseyside Police……………..24 - 15…………….Hoylake 2
Port Sunlight 2……………………HWO……………..Mossley Hill 2
Next Saturday the “Mavs” have a proverbial “Six pointer” when they face top of the table Oldershaw 2 at Eastham. , win and the “Mavs” will take top spot in the division.
Saturday saw the “Mavs” in cup action with a Nowirul Plate Semi-Final against Wythenshawe at Eastham, they secured a resounding 57 - 3 victory.
The “Mavs” will now play Knutsford 2 in the final on Saturday 7th May, the venue for the final is Sedgley Park Rugby Club.
