Approaching their 150th anniversary Penrith have both a long and interesting history. Some flirtations with the 13 player code, several location moves over the years and the sale of land to fund the rebuilding of their present clubhouse - sounds familiar! 12 time winners of the Cumbria cup and current holders having won it 3 years in succession.
Penrith are doing a double weekend of playing Wirral clubs having faced Wirral RUFC on their last outing losing narrowly by 39 points to 32, scoring 5 tries in the process at The Memorial Ground. Formidable opposition, despite the recent defection and 3 players to a neighbouring club, awaits Saints. We will however remember their visit to Malone Field in November - Saints coming up trumps with a 29 - 14 win. Since the start of the year, they have recorded all 'flavours' of results - the loss to Wirral, 2 wins and 2 draws - arguably their best result coming at home to Rossendale (22 - 22). Our Cumbrian hosts currently lie in 7th place in the league equal on points with Newport.
Saints trip to Cumbria yielded a win against Kendal despite trailing at the half - perhaps due in part to the enforced changes to the team. Needless to say our boys were magnificent taking back the momentum in the game and seeing off our opponents. We'll see tomorrow if the selection headaches of last week have carried over into this week too. Regardless of who we call upon for the travelling 18 we can rest assured that Saints will be out to put on a show - good luck lads. #comeonyousaints
